Texas Legacy Keepers is a small family business based in Lakehills, Texas. We help families save their most important stories as family legacy films.
We deploy mobile studio equipment, use a strategic interview process to capture life stories, and turn the resulting footage into family heirlooms. So on the surface, what we do is help your family keep stories and voices alive in a high quality, engaging way.
But really this is just a means to an end. We save your stories because we want to see your family grow stronger starting today.
We produce these films for three reasons: to help your family share deeper connection, stronger belonging, and greater hope. Now, and in the future.
Listening to stories matters... but TELLING stories matters, too. So our interviews are designed to help the storyteller share their story in a way that is naturally organized and reveals the shape of how their journey brought them to the present. Our hope is to bring deeper understanding and clarity for them, and for the whole family.
This kind of sharing can spark deep conversations between all the generations of a family: parents, children, and grandparents. So when you get a film from us, we encourage you to watch it for the first time as a family.
This isn’t only about saving memories for the future; it is about sharing connection together as a family, today.
Because deep connection and understanding is ultimately what will help you keep your family legacy strong and your stories alive.
By keeping your family stories alive you remind every member of your family, young and old, that they are grounded in something bigger than themselves. You remind them that they will always have roots.
We want to help families build a culture that passes legacy from one generation to the next. Your family wisdom and identity can become deeper and deeper for every new generation - the way it is meant to be.
Once it is created, a family legacy film is a tangible heirloom that can be held by every member of your family, providing a common touchpoint for your shared legacy.
Your family has been through failure and success, times of hardship and determination, and pain and joy growing and building lives together.
These are the stories that are the most meaningful to tell, and to hear.
It is a gift of hope to share these stories, because they remind all of you that your family has made it through good times and bad. There are no stories that hit close to home like the stories of the loved ones who made you who you are.
In our interviews, we help family members to share the faith that they have needed to make it through, and we help them look back and share the big lessons that are held in the arc of their life story.
It is a gift of hope for elders to share all this, because they must choose to believe it will matter.
It is an act of love for youth to listen, and an act of hope to believe that their family legacy will bear fruit for them and their children.
We produce documentary-quality interview films to capture the life stories of beloved family members. Our general target is to produce films that are roughly an hour and a half long.
If you want another kind of legacy film - for example a longer film, a deep dive into a particular topic, a series of films, or a memorial film for a departed family member - please contact us. We'll be happy to discuss your needs and see if we help.
Exploration Call
We'll get on a phone call together so you have a chance to ask all the questions you need to decide if we are the right fit for your family.
We'll walk you through the process, and our philosophy.
Preparation
Once you've decided to book us to create a film for your family, we’ll make a plan for interview day together.
We will send you a detailed explanation of what to expect, and some prompts to reflect on. We don't have an interview script, but we can give a general idea of what to expect.
We will ask you about any topics in particular that you want to discuss, or avoid talking about.
Interview Day
We travel to the storyteller, and guide them through telling their story.
Expect an hour or so for us to set up the studio equipment, and have some preliminary discussions with the storyteller.
The actual interview period will take place over the course of 2-3 hours. We plan on at least one scheduled break for refreshment, with as many breaks as needed for comfort.
Editing
We will lightly edit the interview. Our main goal is to remove extended periods of silence, false starts, or anything the storyteller wants excluded. We might sometimes lightly edit for time.
We will also optionally add extras like transition music and title slides, family photos, b-roll footage, historical interest footage, etc.
Expect production to take about two weeks.
Delivery
Once editing is done, we will send you thumb drives with the completed film and the full unedited footage.
We encourage you to celebrate completing your film by planning a watch party with your family.
How long does the interview last?
Setup and prep will take us about an hour, and the interview itself will take around 2-3 hours, including breaks. We will plan to spend an entire morning, or an entire afternoon.
Can we do a film with a husband and wife?
Yes. We can handle that a few ways - do the entire interview together, or we can also do two short interviews apart, and an interview together. We can discuss options with you during our exploration call.
Do I need to do anything special to prepare for the studio setup?
No. We will find a good way to set up in your house as it is. For lighting and aesthetic purposes we might lightly rearrange furniture - with your permission, of course.
What do you cover in the interview?
Generally, we aim to talk about all the main aspects of the storyteller's life. Starting from childhood and memories of key people and places, we talk about faith, marriage, raising children, career, and passions. Individual interviews will vary, of course, depending on the life the person has lived up to the present.
How much does it cost?
We have packages starting at $1,200 which will give you a great family legacy film. Projects that involve additional filming, editing, etc will cost more.
How long does it take?
Booking the interview session will depend on our mutual availability. After the interview, we will deliver your completed film and the raw footage within two weeks.
Can I book a film for someone else?
Absolutely! A legacy film makes a wonderful gift. We can coordinate with you and the storyteller together.
Can I book a film for myself?
Certainly! We will be happy to work with you to capture your story.
How do I get the film?
We will give you three USB drives with the film and raw footage. We encourage you to make more copies and spread them around your family!
Can we add family pictures, home video, music and such?
Yes, we can add your media items at the cost of additional time for import and editing. We can also produce and incorporate footage of you or your loved one doing favorite activities, we can take aerial drone footage of ranch or home, and etc.
Who conducts the interview?
Founder and owner Jason Padvorac will conduct your interview (that's me writing this). I am a follower of Jesus Christ, and homestead with my wife and two daughters in our rural small town community. I'm a jack-of-all-trades: I've spent time in boardrooms, engineering labs and huts in the jungle, I can fix cars and make herbal medicines, and I know how to raise ducks and program computers. I draw from a wealth of life experiences to understand and connect with the people I interview.
This is our bread and butter offering. We are excited about the Life Story package because it is our most affordable regular offering, and yet it offers immense value for your family.
Package includes:
The Keepsake extras let us go above and beyond. In addition to a documentary-quality life story interview, we will spice it up and make it even more engaging with various extras:
